A cartoon drawn by Eleanor G. Bowman. Eleanor is the wife for FEBC Co-Founder Robert H. Bowman. She provided the art and layouts for FEBC publications from the start of the organization in 1945, until 1969.
The cartoon, patterned after the characters of Pogo, by Walt Kelley, depicts her personal view of the realities of FEBC in the formative days. Robert Bowman is shown as Pogo himself, moving from church to church, telling the stories of FEBC. In the lower left the "Home Office" staff works tirelessly to support those who are on "deputation," The tree with "916" represents the household of the Bowmans, largely bereft of dad who is constantly on the road telling the story.

Early picture of John and Florence Lin in Okinawa where they became acquainted with FEBC. John put to use his civil engineering background and oversaw construction of KSBU, KSDX and KSAB. They were eventually responsible for building up and leadership of the FEBC Hong Kong and Singapore production centers, as well as the Chino (California) Sky Waves Center production center. Image scanned from June 1959 Far East Broadcaster publication. See #553 for a complete outline of the Lins' service with FEBC.

Photo #19 - Photo Essay by Byrd Brunemeier June, 1959--Rev. Isabelo Montejo visits a PM Club home. Note the typical slatted floor. This is the home of Ubaldo Sable in barrio Buenavista, Santiago, Isabela Province. Mrs. Sable acquired the radio from FEBC in 1954. Since then, her husband and 40 families in the barrio had become believers and at the time of the photo were stockpiling materials to build a chapel. Their ultimate plans were to eventually hire a full time pastor.

One night a band of robbers invaded the barrio. The Sables were forced to lie on the floor while the robbers looked over what they could steal. Eyeing the radio, they clicked it on to see if it worked. It so happened a sermon was in progress, and they stopped to listen to it...all the way to the end. They then turned the radio off, thanked the family and left without further molestation..a courtesy not accorded many of their neighbors who were mauled by the band. --

Photo #13 - Photo Essay by Byrd Brunemeier June, 1959 -- Church of God Pastor Robert Martin's house is in a village named Maddela in Nueva Vizcaya (now Quirino) Province near the border with Isabela. This is near where the Cagayan River comes down out of the Sierra Madre Mountains, approximately 150 kilometers from Manila. Rev. Montejo is seen here as he approaches the house on a visit to see how the PM Radio is faring. He carries with him a replacement radio in the case that the existing radio needs repair. Note the radio antenna strung from bamboo poles.

Photo #14 - Photo Essay by Byrd Brunemeier June, 1959 -- Rev. Montejo, together with Mrs. Martin, examine a box containing 72 flashlight batteries, which power this PM Radio in the home of Pastor Roberto Martin. The original battery had gone flat months before, but given the isolation of this location and thus the impracticability of getting a new one from Manila, Pastor Martin would buy the D cells from the local store at 40 centavos each, a total cost of 29 pesos. Photographer Byrd Brunemeier himself an electronics engineer, noted that 60 batteries were in series to provide the 90 volts for the B, and 12 in parallel to provide the 1.5 volts for the A power supply, an ingenious solution. The 29 peso cost was approximately $15 - in 1959 a huge amount for this pastor, but demonstrating the crucial role FEBC's radio broadcasts played in his life.
