The main focus of this picture is the gigantic RCA 50kW transmitter which was installed at Bocaue for short wave service. As the CRCM facility could no longer accommodate the proliferation of transmitters and antennas for the growing overseas schedule, the Bocaue property was purchased and development begun in 1957. On the left is a Collins 10kW, most probably the same unit purchased in 1953 (image #337).

A "TEC" transmitter just uncrated, and ready for installation at Bocaue. Four of these units, originally constructed for the U.S. Navy for maritime use, but never put into service, had been acquired at a very reasonable price. Paul Reynolds, FEBC missionary engineer. Nobusuke Kishi, Prime Minister of Japan,(right) visits the Philippines. On the left is Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Felixberto Serrano, who offered the welcome on behalf of the Philippines; Nobusuke’s translator is responding in English. The event appears to be held at Villamor Air Base (adjacent to Manila International Airport). Only DZFM (government station) and FEBC (DZAS) are the only two identifiable stations covering the event. Nobusuke was on a tour of Asia, seeking agreements on war reparations with countries it had occupied in WW2. Security is tight because of possible negative reaction to the first official visit of the Japanese since the war.

Perhaps a low profile mike is the explanation as to why there appears to be no microphone attached to the DZAS mike stand.
