One of the wonderful things about FEBC's collection of historic photographs is the recording of national life as it was in the Philippines, especially in barrios and homes where FEBC was distributing radios and doing "follow up." This scene shows a PM hung from the cieling of a barber shop, traditional community gathering spots even as they are today in the 21st century.

Photo with no specific identification. A Filipino home in the 1950's, probably in the vicinity of Manila (The accessiblity of electricity and the AM radio). The vintage radio is likely an American model which needed the step-down transformer to operate on 220 volts.

Like many photos, lacking specific description. Appears to be expat missionaries in a Filipino home, possibly that of Anacleto Lacanilao (note signs on the exterior). The missionary ladies are playing in order to attract people to the Gospel message. A PM radio is located in the window. On the left is Violet Pipkin, others not identified.

Appears to be a small gathering of believers. The DZAS PM radio is visible on the table in front (another radio is on a shelf). Rev. Isabelo Montejo is leading the service. Perhaps the radio is being "dedicated" for service in a local barrio.

This transparency is inscribed: "PM holder who used radio to win people to the Lord. Pastor of Methodist Church, Buki(d?), Aparri, Cagayan." Aparri is in the extreme north of Luzon, approximately 400 kilometers in a straight line from Manila. Pastors, especially those in remote regions, benefit greatly from the new Christian radio station.

The community of Batia, Bocaue, Bulacan, a scant 14 miles north of Manila, was a center of Hukbalahap (communist guerilla) activity until a rebel commander heard the gospel on the radio and believed. The community ultimately became loyal to the Philippine government and a Christian community rose up.

A man adjusts his PM radio in a home. This is a good interior viewof a typical Philippine "Nipa" house. The main vertical beam is a tree trunk or branch lashed to bamboo cross-pieces. The walls consist of classic "swali", composed of thin bamboo strips. Swali is also used widely in rattan furniture.
