During the Korean War (1950-53), FEBC Philippines maintained a radio program for Philippine troops stationed in that country, called the PEFTOK (Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea) Hour. Here a bus rounds up wives, sweethearts and just interested people, to be transported to CRCM for the program. Hann Browne and Max Atienza are kneeling beneath the sign. See #1089 for a view of the program in action.

An quite early aerial view of CRCM taken from the east. A third of the DZAS tower is painted, but no "hat" has yet been added. There are no basketball courts on the properties. In the foreground is FEBIAS and on the right a good view of the "Pugad Baboy" road that fronts the properties.

This great photograph shows the work being done to bury ground wires that radiate out from the DZAS tower in order to improve its signal coverage. A tractor was rented to plow the wires into the ground (which can be seen on the far right, and extra workers were hired to repair the rice paddies.

A tractor is used to pull a plow with ground wire attached. One of the challenges in this project was that a layer of volcanic rock was not too far under the surface of the rice paddies. From the left: Leo Maypa, Leodegario, Pablo Aguarino, Don Smith.

Six of these young men (three on either end with diplomas)pose with their teachers (center), including Rev. Lacanilao and Max Atienza(rear), have just finished their three weeks of concentrated study in sharing their faith with others. The men are from Batia, Bocaue, a former Hukbalahap (communist freedom fighter) stronghold. Some of them had been indoctrinated in communism, but found Christ as their Savior through listening to DZAS. One day they arrived at the station with bed roll and rice asking for training in evangelism! With the assistance of teachers from FEBIAS and Bethel Bible Institute, these earnest men received their training and went back to their homes to win men for Christ! The entire barrio of Batia was turned away from communist ideology in part by the broadcasts of FEBC. 4"x5" negative.

A wonderful portrait of an extended Filipino family showing in some detail the classic Spanish colonial residence design, with the semi-opaque "mother of pearl" windows, and other fine woodworking. The family is that of Leonardo Modelo of Kaingin, San Rafael, who became believers through the Tagalog broadcast of Max Atienza. When this photo was taken, a total of 25 people were taking the "Bible School of the Air" courses. 4"x5" negative.

The General Daniel I. Sultan approaches Manila docks (or Sangley Point?). This ship had an illustrious history in WWII, the Korean and Vietnam wars. At the time his photo was taken (c. 1953)it belonged to the USNS Military Sea Transportation Service (MSTS). The relationship of the photo to FEBC is conjectural; possibly the return of Philippine troops (PEFTOK) from the Korea campaign. FEBC provided a short wave service to Philippine troops, with messages of encouragement from their families. See also #909, #1089.
