Zamboanga Times, September 22, 1992. Muslim political extremists Abu Sayyaf terrorist group attack FEBC station DXAS, Zamboanga (Philippines), killing three persons including Tausug language broadcaster Greg Hapalla and control operator Greg Bacabis. The killings are carried out after phoned threats against DXAS for broadcasting to the Muslim Tausug. The Tausug themselves were not complaining about the broadcasts, in fact were enthusiastic listeners. Some time passed before Abu Sayyaf took credit for the murders.

DXAS serves Zamboanga, southern Philippines. Fruit stands with a wide selection are common in the more rural areas, and feature local varieties. The bananas are the most common type found in the Philippines, and are sometimes called "Lady Fingers," for their similarity to bunches of firecrackers.

Zamboanga, southern Philippines, where DXAS is located, has a wonderful beachfront area with white sand, crystal-clear water, and oustanding seafood restaurants. Unfortunately, in the 1980's through the turn of the century, Zamboanga has been plagued with bombings and killings perpetrated by Abu Sayyaf, resulting in empty beaches.
