FEBC Missionary William Reames displays the gift of cabbages, camotes and potatoes which were sent down by bus to FEBC from the mountains 200 miles to the north. The vegetables were a "love gift" of appreciation for the PM radio provided to the tribe. Image #711 is a related photo in color.

Rev. P. Castro (Probably on the left), a horse-back circuit rider, takes the gospel to isolated villages in the mountains. At the height of the rainy season, these villages are cut off because of swollen rivers. Rev. Castro will place these ten PMs among the villages so that the gospel could be heard when he cannot not visit. DZB2 is the "tropical band" short wave service of FEBC Manila, covering areas outside the reach of DZAS-AM.

Administration building and radio tower, CRCM. Robert Bowman is flanked by two men who had helped make the erection of the new 300 foot radio tower possible. Working for Mackay Radio in Manila, they learned that FEBC was in search of a tower. Realizing that Mackay had no use for a tower that had cost them $25,000 to purchase and ship to Manila, they offered it to FEBC, which in turn offered the sum total of their existing field bank account: $300! Amazingly, the U.S.HQ for Mackay accepted! A year or two later one of the men, having returned to the States, wrote Dr. Bowman, informing him that his visit to CRCM had awakened in him a renewed interest in spiritual things. He wrote: "Now I know what it means to be born again."

DZAS 300 foot radio tower shortly after its construction. One way to determine the "age" of the tower is to consider the top of the tower, which originally had only a small pulley tripod. Later, to improve DZAS' coverage, a radiating "hat" was added. Still later, when the DZAS transmitter was moved to Bocaue, the tower supported the FM antenna for DZFE. Finally, when DZFE's antennas were moved to Makati, the tower was utilized for STL link with Bocaue.

The historic Pan American Boeing Stratocruiser "Clipper America" taxis to the ramp at Manila International Airport. The photo is from the collection of an FEBC visitor named "Jesse" who toured Asia and who arrived in Manila on this aircraft in about 1951. The Boeing 377 was the first step up from the PanAM "flying boats" that had been traversing the Pacific. FEBC personnel utilized this aircraft, in the mid 1950's as the first break from sea travel.
