A young family's home. The floors in homes in the Philippines were usually waxed mahogany or coco(nut) wood. The PM radio is a more complex model with several FEBC stations to choose from.

A rural church. Beside the PM radio is a clock, to help remind people who otherwise pay no attention to time, the moment to tune in to the program that will help them grow in faith. One story, taken from Mindoro Island is that one congregation who had become accustomed to having the radio lead their services, began all other services with the announcement, "This is the Far East Broadcasting Company. The time is seven P.M."

Looking more like a military camp than a missionary radio station, tents served as FEBC's first shops and living quarters in 1947. The 55-gallon drums were the standard container for shipping smaller items across the Pacific.

A 750-foot well had to be dug to provide water. The water was pure, and was made available to the local community. In the 1990's the well began to run dry because of the demand on the water table, caused by Manila's urban encroachment, and was drilled to over 1000 feet where it again was tested to be absolutely pure!

The kitchen/dining area of missionary house #1. Mrs. Jane Handlos is at the sink. Hot water would not be available in the housing for many years to come. Pantry table legs were set in coffee cans filled with kerosene in an attempt to prevent ants from coming aboard. However, the ants soon learned to cross the moats by laying down a pontoon bridge of their dead fellow ants. See also #1497.

Dr. E. Stanley Jones (1884-1972) in the studios of FEBC in 1949. He has been described as the most effective and well-respected Christian missionary-statesmen of the 20th century. He was especially knowledgable, sensitive, and respectful of Asian culture in the communication of the gospel.
