Ralph Carmichael, Ralph Carmichael, He's Everything to Me (Word: ISBN 0-8499-0094-8, 1986). Autobiography. Chapter six details the relationship of FEBC founders and Carmichael in the very early days of both ministries/careers.

Reference to the "Call of the Orient" program (1947), p. 62-63: "In 1947, Bob Bowman and John Broger began producing a weekly radio program for the Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC). The program was called The Call of the Orient, and they asked me to write the music for it. It was an innovative format that included a missionary story underscored with orchestral bridges and cues. I'd never written a cue in my life, but I got together an oboe, a flute, a harp, and some strings and started to learn. We recorded each week out in Santa Monica at the Moody Institute of Science on their large sound-stage. One of the Moody staff members was in charge of recording. His name was Dick Ross, but that's another chapter..."

"Mr. Kim is a venerable old Korean gentleman, very wise, but at the same time, graciously friendly. You want to speak to him.
"His hat (called a KAT), adopted in the beginning of the Yi Dynasty, is constructed of thin bamboo and horsehair and speaks of the position of respect he holds in his community." - E.B.

"This little Sherpani weighs about 85 lbs. yet can carry an almost equal weight during a 15 mile-a-day trek on high mountain trails. Notecard reproductions of an Oil by Eleanor Bowman
"I have seen her hands when they were still calloused from pushing wheelbarrows full of heavy rocks during the years she served in a Russian prison for her faith.
"In this picture I wanted to show that the same unextinguished faith, years later, still shines from her eyes. Weeping endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning. (Ps. 30:5)" -E.B.

Hue Remembered
Notecard reproductions of an Oil by Eleanor Bowman
"I painted the Vietnamese girl with sadness of heart the year that Vietnam fell and our friends had to flee the land of their birth and memory. She stands symbolically before the suggested ancient city of HUE (pronounced Whey) which, with its tiled palaces amid a sea of fragrant trees, and its lotus-clogged canals flowing into the River of Perfumes, was the pride and focus of all Vietnam.
"The voices of our friends with a message of Hope are now heard across the land." -E. B.
