Date not certain. This interesting photo of Pier 35 was taken from Coit Tower, San Francisco by the Homer Kreps family. An ambiguous note on the obverse: "This is where the [P.F.E.L. freighter] China Bear was." It is quite possible that the ship on the right is in fact the China Bear since its configuration is consistent. The ship transported several FEBC families between the US and the Philippines. Additional photos search word "China Bear."

In 1947, FEBC produced the "Call of the Orient" radio broadcast for release within the U.S., to promote its new ministry. The program featured music, which was then offered to the public in the form of 78 rpm records, under the label "Mission Music." This label is unusual in that in presents a Chinese version of an English song.

Mrs. Chua Kian Tiang (Phoebe) was FEBC's first Chinese language broadcaster on DZAS local. She was a resident of Manila; her broadcast was intended for Amoy speakers in that City. Mrs. Chua was also a generous supporter of the new work, making a contribution to make it possible to construct a new 300 foot self-sustaining radio tower, which stands on the Manila compound to this day.

One of the very first views of the primitive Manila control room, possibly late 1948, early 1949. The adjoining studios A, B, and C appear to be still under construction. Note the 30 inch acetate recording discs with narrow cuts...probably the first recorded station breaks or special messages. After use, the acetate was boiled off the aluminum disc so it could be bent into a chassis for PM radios.
