DYVS (Bacolod) serves a wide area in Negros Occidental, including its 14 "centrals," or sugar mills. At this particular mill, a radio pretuned to DYVS was installed in the workers' dormitory by its manager (see #241). The result of this and other evangelization efforts was that a large number of the 3000 workers became dedicated Christians. Their work ethic so radically improved that this mill repeatedly exceeded all the other mills in production by a wide margin.

Zamboanga Times, September 22, 1992. Muslim political extremists Abu Sayyaf terrorist group attack FEBC station DXAS, Zamboanga (Philippines), killing three persons including Tausug language broadcaster Greg Hapalla and control operator Greg Bacabis. The killings are carried out after phoned threats against DXAS for broadcasting to the Muslim Tausug. The Tausug themselves were not complaining about the broadcasts, in fact were enthusiastic listeners. Some time passed before Abu Sayyaf took credit for the murders.
