A Korean Gentleman
Notecard reproductions of an Oil by Eleanor Bowman
"Mr. Kim is a venerable old Korean gentleman, very wise, but at the same time, graciously friendly. You want to speak to him.
"His hat (called a KAT), adopted in the beginning of the Yi Dynasty, is constructed of thin bamboo and horsehair and speaks of the position of respect he holds in his community." - E.B.

Japanese Tea Ceremony
Notecard reproductions of an Oil by Eleanor Bowman
"In Japan all tradition is greatly esteemed and the ancient tea ceremony is admired for its order and correctness. Every delicate movement and disciplined gesture is observed and appreciated. One cannot help but wish for her to emerge from the bonds of tradition to the freedom and peace of the love of Christ." -E.B.

Sherpa Girl
Notecard reproductions of an Oil by Eleanor Bowman
"This little Sherpani weighs about 85 lbs. yet can carry an almost equal weight during a 15 mile-a-day trek on high mountain trails. From her hardy mountain stock come the stalwart men that accompanied Hillary to the top of Everest. I loved painting her because of her shy smile and climate-rosy cheeks."-E.B.

Babushka
"Grandmother" in Russian
Notecard reproductions of an Oil by Eleanor Bowman
"I have seen her hands when they were still calloused from pushing wheelbarrows full of heavy rocks during the years she served in a Russian prison for her faith.
"In this picture I wanted to show that the same unextinguished faith, years later, still shines from her eyes. Weeping endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning. (Ps. 30:5)" -E.B.

Hue Remembered
Notecard reproductions of an Oil by Eleanor Bowman
"I painted the Vietnamese girl with sadness of heart the year that Vietnam fell and our friends had to flee the land of their birth and memory. She stands symbolically before the suggested ancient city of HUE (pronounced Whey) which, with its tiled palaces amid a sea of fragrant trees, and its lotus-clogged canals flowing into the River of Perfumes, was the pride and focus of all Vietnam.
"The voices of our friends with a message of Hope are now heard across the land." -E. B.

Philippinw tribal girl Notecard reproductions of an Oil by Eleanor Bowman "Adorned with a silver breastplate, timeless ornament of her tribe, the Mansaka maiden lives deep in the almost inaccessible forested mountains of Mindanao in the southern Philippines. Little of the civilized world has filtered through the deep jungle growth of her world. As I painted her pensive dreaminess made me wonder about her thoughts and her need for the Savior.”E.B. Interior of the Bocaue transmitter building. Shown here are the "TEC" transmitters that served FEBC from the early 1960's until the late 1990's. The transmitters were originally built for use by the U.S. Navy as 30 kw CW (Code) transmitters in 1945 but never put into service. FEBC learned of their existence in 1960 and bought four of them. They were converted for audio and upgraded in power to 40-50kw. They operated faithfully to points in Asia until project S.A.V.E. replaced them with 100kw Continental Electronic transmittters in the late 20th and early 21st century!

Pastor Somchai Meechurit served FEBC Thailand from the late 1970's till the early 2000's. Somchai's programme 'This Life' was among the most popular. He avoided an oratorical or didactic style of speaking, and the audience loved his intimate half-hour chats. Almost as soon as he came on the air the FEBC-Bangkok telephone would start ringing - it was necessary to ask listeners to ring the next morning as his programme was aired when the studio was closed. He edited some of his broadcast material on 'living as a Christian in Thailand' into small booklets, and these were always in high demand. Another feature was his recording (with the caller's permission) of incoming phone calls so that he could reproduce extracts of them, and his answers in a subsequent programme.
