Pastor Somchai Meechurit served FEBC Thailand from the late 1970's till the early 2000's. Somchai's programme 'This Life' was among the most popular. He avoided an oratorical or didactic style of speaking, and the audience loved his intimate half-hour chats. Almost as soon as he came on the air the FEBC-Bangkok telephone would start ringing - it was necessary to ask listeners to ring the next morning as his programme was aired when the studio was closed. He edited some of his broadcast material on 'living as a Christian in Thailand' into small booklets, and these were always in high demand. Another feature was his recording (with the caller's permission) of incoming phone calls so that he could reproduce extracts of them, and his answers in a subsequent programme.

The Chinese typewriter in fact is a mechanical setup of thousands in Chinese characters in lead, placed in a logical format of A2 size. This was a mechanical version of the type-setting of Chinese print-shops. It was being used from 1960s to early 1980s when Chinese typing was being replaced by computer. There are about 2500 words on the plate and 3600 spare words. FEBC Hong Kong did not use a typewriter for radio scripts because it was time consuming. They used it for official documents and correspondence. Chinese churches used to type their Sunday service bulletins and in-house publications. See also #F01407.

These are four copies, probably made in the 1960s, of the minutes of the first FEBC Advisory Board Meeting, held in Los Angeles. Note James Hudson Taylor II, was in attendance. The original document is not found. The Shoreham Hotel was the location of the second FEBC office (the first was in the Calvary Assembly of God, Inglewood, CA). The hotel was eventually demolished, and at this revision, is a parking lot.

The first water well at CRCM featured a wooden tower and a place where people from the local barrio, who had no running water, could come and load up with water that was pure and safe. Five gallon kerosene tins were the containers of choice. Later, a water bib was located nearer the main gate specifically for the barrio (see also #111, 112, 305, 306, 329, 958, 959, 980). Note the WW2 aircraft landing strips. One of the missionary housing units is visible in the background.
