1962   Robert H. Bowman receives a handshake and award from U.S. President John F. Kennedy, on behalf of KGEI, at a ceremony following the successful blockade of ships during the Cuban Missile Crisis. KGEI and other US stations were utilized by the US government to broadcast the American point of view internationally, during the crisis. On the left is Edward R. Murrow, famed news commentator and head of the USIS at the time. Third from the right is Andrew E. Nelli, Chairman of the Board of FEBC.
