1948   Richard Handlos (left) and a local worker look on as Richard Rowland tries his hand at soldering. The copper pipes were used for conducting high voltage electricity and/or water for cooling transmitter vacuum tubes. Hot water in the residences was not available for many decades, and then, only by means of small in-line electric heaters.
