1979   Originally HLDA, FEBC's 250,000 watt AM transmitter site is located on Cheju Island, South Korea. In the 1970's and '80s, there was great concern on the part of the Korean goverment that radio facilities could be destroyed or taken over by commandos from North Korea. Thus the camouflage paint job. The government also required deployment of armed guards (see #466).
