Responses from Vietnamese Listeners

December 1999

Note: "Nguon Song" or "Spring of Life" is the name of Vietnamese broadcast on the FEBC Radio.

1. Mr. N.V.N., Da Nang

... I would like to know what organization is sponsoring Nguon Song radio ministry, or what is its religious affiliation? Most of the groups that preach about God that I've heard, such as Roman Catholic, Protestant, or Seventh Day Adventists, talk about God, and the cross is the symbol of their faith. I would like to know what religious group Nguon Song ministry belongs to. I am living in a society that teaches that "religion is nothing but opium that hypnotizes people." Then the other day, I heard your teaching on the series "In Christ's Footstep," and you said that if anyone who would like to have a copy of that lesson just writes to you and you will send it to him. I would like to know how does your "opium" taste like, so please send me a copy of that lesson. In the future, I may write again to request for other material. Thank you for your help.

2. Mr. N.V.Q., Ho Chi Minh City

... I would like to share with you some information about the quality of your signal. I had a Sony four-band radio, but even with that I still could not listen to your morning and evening broadcasts without some interference. I think the reason is there is another Vietnamese station that broadcast on the same short wave frequency, at the 31meter band. Besides, there's a Chinese station that also broadcast on that same frequency. These broadcasts usually overpower Nguon Song signal and at times, cover it completely. Your broadcast is usually easy to hear for the first 15 minutes only and then being overpowered almost totally until the end of the program. I thank God however that recently I was able to purchase a used National Panasonic radio which has 6 bands so now I can hear your broadcast from Saipan much more easily. Any way, I think the Naiwa radio, made in Taiwan, is just perfect for listening to foreign broadcasts. It may be a good idea if you would suggest your listeners to use these radios instead of other brands. Concerning the number of Nguon Song's listeners, I think those who write to you are only the "visible" ones. There are many more "invisible" listeners who listen to your broadcast every day and yet never write. For example, I recently met a man who is a Roman Catholic, who said that he has been listening to Nguon Song program since he was a youth, living in North Vietnam. I also know of a woman who is the only Christian in her family. Everyone else in her family is Roman Catholic, but they all listen to Nguon Song broadcast. Please pray for them. Moreover, I believe that there are many more "invisible" listeners in the Mekong Delta than in Ho Chi Minh City or the highland area. I wonder why I seldom hear any pastor of the local churches mentioned Nguon Song's ministries to their members.

3. Mrs. N.T.T.H., Bun

First letter:

I am a faithful listener of Nguon Song broadcast. I used to be a Roman Catholic, who listened to Radio Veritas regularly, then about two years ago a friend of mine, who is a Christian, talked to me about Christ. I began to go to church on special occasions such as Christmas and Easter and listen to the preaching of different pastors. Then one day in March of 1999, I happened to tune to Nguon Song broadcast, from then on; I've been listening to your evening program from 8:00 - 9:30 regularly. I began to learn the Word of God. One hour of your broadcast to me is just too short; it seems like only 5-10 minutes. In the city where I live there are about 3000 Catholics and only one Protestant family. This family is being isolated from the rest of the community because they had just joined a Protestant church recently. As I listen to your teaching of the Bible every day, now I wonder if I should remain a Catholic or become a Protestant. I am not sure if I have been saved because I still observe many Catholic practices. I listen to your programs every evening, if for some reasons, I had to miss them one night, I would feel very bad about it. Please pray for me.

Second letter:

I am writing to you again today. I thank God that through your radio program, my spiritual life is strengthened and my faith renewed. Now my mother, daughter and myself have become Christians, and we had all been baptized. My father, brothers and sisters however are still worshipping in the Catholic Church. Please pray for me that I will have a strong faith in God. I would like to have a question for the "Dialogue Program," that is, how or what can we do to have faith in God? I hope that you will answer my question on this program some day. I would like to request the booklets "Forgiveness in Marriage" and "Satan in Today's World" from your "Dialogue Program" and the sermon entitled "Strategy for God's Kingdom." Please also send me some song sheets from the songs used in your broadcast, so I can sing praise to God. Thank you for your help.

Third letter:

I trust that you are serving God with peace and joy. As I'd shared with you in my first letter, I began to listen to your daily broadcast in March of 1999, however, since the time of the big flood and bad weather last November in Central Vietnam, I could not find your station on my radio dial anymore. While other station like Radio Veritas is still strong and clear, Nguon Song Radio is no where to be found. I programmed your signal on my radio dial so that I wouldn't have to search for it every time I want to listen, but even with that, I still cannot find your broadcast. Then I took the radio to a repair shop, the man there said, there's nothing wrong with your radio, it may be that Nguon Song Radio has changed its frequency. When you receive this letter please let me know as soon as possible. I apologize because I did not send you any of my letters. Please pray for my father, brothers and sisters that they will some day be willing to throw away all of their idols and worship God with spirit and truth. May God bless you and allow these letters to reach you safely.

4. Mr. N.Q.T., Ho Chi Minh City

This is my second time writing to you. Through your "Listener's Mailbag" program, I learned that you had send some material to me, however until now I did not receive anything. I listen to your broadcast and pray for your ministry every day. I am so glad that you have changed your morning frequency to the 9860 Khz, now we can listen to the morning broadcast more easily. I would like to request the following materials: An English New Testament, Nguon Song songbook, and lessons from the "Faith Illustrated" programs. Thank you.

5. Mr. D.P., Binh Phuoc

First letter:

I thank God that He has provided all my needs. May you all be blessed as you serve God at Nguon Song Radio station in the Philippines. I started to listen to Nguon Song's broadcast in 1993, but shortly after that my radio was broken. Since I could not afford to purchase another radio, I could not listen to Nguon Song programs for the past six years. Please pray for me that somehow I will have another radio to listen to God's Word. May His will be done. Amen.

Second letter:

Hallelujah, praise God, our Jehovah Jire for "He will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." I was so happy when receiving the special gift from God, which is a radio. Now I can listen to your radio broadcast as I have always wanted to. I did not know what to say to thank you for the thoughtful and precious gift you have given to me. May God anoint your messages so that every time your preach or teach His Word, many will come to know Christ as their personal Savior.

6. Mr. V.T.A., Ho Chi Minh City

I am one of your faithful listeners. I usually listen in the evenings, from 7:00 to 8:00pm. Recently, your signal seems to be jammed by stronger stations such as BBC, VOA ... making it very difficult to listen. And that is why I could not listen to your program as often as before. I had received the English New Testament "Path to Victory" and the study guide on Paul's letter to Philemon. Thank you so very much. I consider these books my treasures and God's special gifts to me. I haven't been able to listen to your programs lately and I feel like I have lost or missed out on something very important in my life. Today, I am writing to request some Bible lessons or booklets that would help me learn more of God's Word. In the past, when I still could listen to your broadcasts regularly, I tried to copy down your weekly schedule and I had one complete schedule for the week of October 31 to November 6, 1994. I remember one of your "Points to Ponder" which says, "The only way to make good use of your time is to serve God until the last day of your life," and that is exactly what I am doing now. God has given me these privileges: Being nearly 70 years old, I do not have to work, no children to care for, so I can use my free time to serve Him. I am serving God by giving, studying His Word, buying Christian books to give to those who need it, writing to friends to encourage them in the faith, and witnessing to non-Christian friends, telling them what God has done for my life. I am thankful to God for He saved me when I was only fourteen years old. What a blessing to be a child of God! Please send me anything you have to offer to your listeners because I cannot hear your announcements over the radio. Thank you.

7. Mr. H.V.N., Utah, USA

I thank God that through the help of FEBC's Vietnamese staff I was able to obtain some Christian material, which will help me study the Bible more easily. Recently, I heard your teaching about the Kingdom of God, in one of your "Dialogue" programs. I would like to ask for that lesson and also the Sunday sermon on the books of Thessalonians. I hope to receive these materials soon so I can share with others in the church. Thank you very much.
