November 2002
Note: "Nguon Song" or "Spring of Life" is the name of Vietnamese broadcast on the FEBC Radio.
From Mr. P.M.N., Binh Phuoc
Today, after listening to the “Words of Hope” program at 7 PM August 27, 2002 I am writing this letter right away to request a copy of the sermon I just heard. I would like to use it to study and share with those who have the same needs but are unable to listen to your broadcast. I live far away from the city, where it is very difficult to send and receive mail, so I am using a friend’s address. I hope you understand.
I heard your broadcast by chance 2 years ago, when I was looking for a foreign station to listen to the news. Ever since then, I have taken time out every night to listen to your station. I am a Roman Catholic by faith taught to me by my parents. However, I didn’t really know much about God until I heard your sermons. I felt like I found a treasure.
I am 52 years old, but spent 45 years in the “desert,” a time of emptiness in my life. Your sermon today touched the core of my heart, helping me to understand my spiritual condition. I sincerely thank you for helping me to understand my problem and find the answer to resolve it. Can you please answer these 2 questions for me?
1. What is the basic difference between Christianity and Roman Catholicism?
2. What are the differences between the Christian and Catholic services, mass, confession, communion, prayer, etc.?
I am currently faced with a decision between the two faiths and don’t know which way to go. I would appreciate any help from you. This is my first letter to you, and I hope it will be the beginning of something beneficial for me.
From Mr. P.V.N., Ho Chi Minh City
I thank God that I have been well and still be able to listen to Nguon Song Radio daily, although the reception isn’t very good, but it’s still better than not being able to hear it at all. I pray God’s blessings be upon your work so that His Word will be proclaimed everywhere. Do you know that I am a listener who is very fond of your program? Since the day I came to know the Lord Jesus, He is first and everything to me, and Nguon Song Radio is the second important thing in my life. May God bless your ministry abundantly, and your voice that proclaims the teaching of His Word will reach far into every village and every home, like a stream of water under the ground, producing life wherever it goes.
Many times I wondered why my letters written to you never got a reply. Whether I requested for materials or asked for prayers, I’d never heard from you. Today, putting my trust in God, I try to write to you once more, just to thank you for all that you have done for me. Listening to your teaching of God’s Word has helped me grow strong in my faith, and I have learned to put my trust totally in the Lord and in Him alone. I want to serve God but my wife and children do not support me. Would you please pray that my whole family will be in one faith, and that we will be used by the God for His glory?
My second request is that I would like to receive all of the Bible lessons and sermons, broadcast every week, from Mondays to Sundays. I really need these materials to prepare myself for ministry. If it’s possible, please send me first the following lessons: Basic Christianity, Marriage & Family, and The Praying Woman, broadcast on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursday. I also need some gospel tracts to give to unbelievers. Please send me these materials in a “special way” so that I will be able to receive them. I also need some program guides to give to those who have never heard of or listened to Nguon Song. Thank you.
From Miss L.T.H.S., Soc Trang
Finally, I received your reply on August 25, 2002 along with a Bible and a program guide. From the day I heard you announce on the Listeners’ Mailbag program that you received my letter, to the day I received your reply was 2 months. I was hopeful, then hopeless. But now I am very glad to be holding your letter in my hand. Your consideration has made me stronger and more able to face the trials in my life. There have been many times when I thought that life was hopeless, but I had a strong belief overflow in my heart. I saw my life renewed by God’s almighty power. I thank you very much, because you have brought me true happiness. In my last letter, I requested the booklets: Genesis, Return to the Dust, Revelation, Matthew and Romans; but you sent me the booklet “Faith and Marriage,” and I don’t know why. Therefore, in addition to letting you know that I have received your letter, once again I would really like to request the other books that I mentioned in my previous letter, and I really hope that you will send them to me. I long to have those books in my possession to study.
Actually, when I requested those books in my previous letter, they weren’t for me, but for my grandfather. I also hope that you will send me Volume 2 of the “Faith and Marriage” booklet, because it will be the guiding light for my marriage in the future
Concerning the quality of your signal in my area, it is very hard to listen in the morning, because there is a lot of interference from other stations. At night, we are able to listen, but it is still not very clear. My sincere thanks to you for all that you’ve done.
From Mrs. N.T.X., Dak Lak
I am 39 years old and a member of the Evangelical church of Dak Lak. I came to know Christ in my childhood. I went to church every Sunday, attended Sunday school and Children’s Church, etc. However, in the recent past, I happened to listen to Nguon Song and was filled with such joy. It was as if I had found something that I had been missing for a long time. Thank God for being with me over years of hardship and hard work to support my family. I lived by my wits, youth, and my own strength. In the end, I failed, gaining nothing. Even though I lived for many years away from home, God’s Word was still with me, and yet I did not live by it... until today, when God’s wonderful love reached me and I have repented. Please pray for me, that I may have strength to overcome temptation. I want to be an example for my family and the people around me. I listen to Nguon Song regularly every morning at 5:45 AM. Please send me books about the life of Christ, Bible lessons, and Christian booklets. Thank you.
From Mr. N.V.X., Can Tho
In the past week, I was pleasantly surprised to receive your letter, hand-delivered by a friend of mine. I sent my letter a long time ago, so I thought that maybe it was lost. But everything worked out all right, and my letter reached you. When I read your letter, I was taught an encouraging lesson. I am currently fellowshipping at a church in Can Tho. Thank God that my family has been able to attend there weekly. Because of that, our faith has grown.
From Mr. N.V.Q., Da Nang
I received the letter you wrote on Aug. 8, 2002. Thank you. Reading your letter brought me joy and I thank God for it. Thank God also that I received the sermons you sent me, along with the postage stamps. Thank you for teaching me about my responsibilities to my parents and grandparents, as the Bible teaches. I currently have a small radio that I can use to listen to Nguon Song whenever I want. I just have to turn it on. I am currently in the youth group, studying the life of Christ. I need a Bible Dictionary, but I cannot afford it. Can you please send me one if possible? I thank you.
From Miss D.P.K.H., Ben Tre
I was really glad to receive your letter and was almost moved to tears to read the words you wrote in God’s love. You sent your letter a long time ago, but I just received it today. This is the first letter I have received from you since 1996. I have never received any other letters or materials. My mother and I both work far from home in a coffee shop. The shop is crowded on the weekends, and so I don’t have time to go to church. I don’t get to listen to your program when it is broadcast either. I can only listen to it later because my father tapes them for me. I am sad about that, but there’s nothing else I can do. I hope that you will pray for me, that I would find a different job that will allow me to worship God on Sundays and listen to your broadcast.
From Mr. N.T.B., Can Tho
I regularly visit a friend of mine, who told me about the teachings of Nguon Song Radio. I am really interested. Every now and again, I go to my friend’s house at 7 PM and am able to listen to your broadcast. I enjoyed it very much. However, I don’t have my own radio to listen to. I am praying that God would provide the means for one, but life has been difficult, and I am unable to purchase one. I came to know God in 1997. I didn’t really understand a lot in the beginning, and I had to go through many frustrating trials. Thank God that the church prayed for me consistently, so my faith grew and the Holy Spirit guided me through. Thank God that almost my entire family has also been saved. My parents and all of my brothers and sisters, except for one of my older sisters, have come to know Christ. Please pray for her.
From Mr. H.C.T., Dong Thap
I am very happy to be writing to you. It takes a lot of work and money to send a letter abroad. I pray that my letter will reach you. I have been a Christian for 3 years. Even though life is very difficult, I have experienced God’s love for me. Since I came to know God, I really love Him and want to serve Him. I truly hope that God will use me, but I wonder if people in ministry are required to be well educated, because I am not. My life right now is very difficult, but I pray that God will open the way for me to serve Him in the future.
