Responses from Vietnamese Listeners

October 2001

Note: "Nguon Song" or "Spring of Life" is the name of Vietnamese broadcast on the FEBC Radio.

From Miss H.K.L., Ho Chi Minh City

I am a regular listener of Nguon Song Radio. Every day at 7 PM I tune in to your broadcast. This has become an essential part of my day that I cannot do without. I am really disappointed whenever I am busy for reasons beyond my control, or if the weather is bad and I am unable to listen to your program. Learning about the Bible through your programs has become a necessity for me, nurturing my soul, helping me to know God’s will and experience His love. At the same time, it helps my faith grow daily. I thank God and all of you, pastors, who have overcome difficulties to take the time to prepare your sermons.

Through listening to your program, I have been changed in my way of thinking as well as my attitude toward life in general. God’s Word has helped me to walk in the light. My soul is at peace no matter what hardships I face, because I trust in the Lord. Whenever there is some difficulty in my life, God’s Word comforts and encourages me, helping me to realize what I need to do when I am confused and have lost my way. Every day I realize more and more that I cannot live a happy life without believing in God. I hope that you will share my joy and also remember to pray for me, that God may strengthen my faith daily. I also pray that God will bless you with good health and wisdom as you continue your ministry to bring God’s Word to all people. I also pray that God will use Nguon Song Program to bring many to Him. At your discretion, could you please send me some Bible lessons? I would especially like to receive the Marriage Preparation lesson broadcast on September 5, 2001 at 7:30 PM, and a program guide so that I can tell my friends about your broadcast. Thank you for your help.

From Mr. N.C.D., Dong Nai

I am sorry that I have disappointed you, for it has been 4 years since I last wrote to you. Not long after I sent you my first letter, I had to leave town for work. I returned home on occasion, but did not hear from you. Then one day, when I came home, my brother let me know that I had received a letter from abroad. I was so excited to hold your letter in my hands. Thank God, and thank you for thinking of me. I am a carpenter, and have to go from house to house; unable to stay in one place for long, so I am unable to listen to your broadcast regularly. If I am working at a home that has a radio, I usually borrow it to listen, but if there is no radio, I cannot hear the broadcast. There are also some times when I cannot find your station, or when I finally find it, your broadcast has ended! But that’s OK... I will try harder to locate your station next time. May God bless you richly.

From Mrs. N.T.H., Lam Dong

I thank you very much for thinking of me now, after 5 years without any correspondence from me. I thought that I would not receive any more of your letters, so I was so touched when I received your letter that I wanted to cry! Even though I have known God for several years now, there are still times when I stumble. When I do fall, God picks me up. For example, I had been struggling spiritually when I received your letter in the mail. Reading your letter brings me great joy and encouragement. I hope that you will always remember me and encourage me in my spiritual walk.

From Mr. N.A.H., Binh Thuan

I would like to let you know about the quality of your signal. In the morning, the 25-meter band is all right, but at night from 7-8 PM there is a lot of static and it is really hard to hear. Hopefully Nguon Song can do something to improve the strength of its signal so that listeners can hear it more easily. We thank Nguon Song for continuing to write to us, thereby understanding our frustration in not receiving the materials that we requested. Do you think it would help to send the materials by registered mail?

From Mr. D.V.N., Dong Nai

I would like to introduce myself: I am a paraplegic because of a work accident. I am not a Christian. I only worship my dead ancestors. But I have faith. I have been listening to your sermons about religion and life for the past 2 months now. One day, I tuned into your station by accident. I was turning the dial when I heard your Marriage and Family program teaching about the husband’s and father’s responsibility in the family. I thought it was wonderful. From that day on, I have anticipated your broadcast everyday, and have been hanging on every word that is taught. All of the programs are very beneficial to my spiritual life. Nguon Song is a teacher and father to me, guiding me to find and understand the truth. I would like to take this opportunity to request lessons from the Marriage Preparation series. I would also like to request a 2001 Program Guide.

In my area, Nguon Song’s signal is clear and strong from 5:45-6:45 AM. Every voice is very clear. However, the evening broadcast is not clear at all. There is a lot of interference, and I am unable to listen to any part of the program. I don’t know if there is any way you can show me, so that I might be able to hear the evening broadcast. Thank you.

From Mrs. V.T.K.L., Ho Chi Minh City

I think it would take 2 weeks for a letter from the Philippines to reach Vietnam. I was very glad to receive your letter. I thank God for your care and consideration. It brings me joy every Christmas to receive your letter from overseas. I have been listening to your 7 PM broadcast regularly for the past few years. The sermons, stories and songs broadcast through Nguon Song have helped me in many ways: If I am facing a difficulty in my service in the church, and don’t know how to resolve it, I wait to find God’s answer through Nguon Song’s programs. Whatever topic your broadcast is about, I know that it is God’s Word for my problem. For example, I was once really upset with someone in my church, and when I listened to Nguon Song, I heard the sermon about forgiveness: we are supposed to forgive our brother 70 X 7 times. Then I knew what I had to do. Thank you for bringing the Word of God to me.

From Mr. N.T.L., Ho Chi Minh City

I Thank God because He is using you to care for me. I am holding your letter, and am really touched, sensing God’s grace for me. Over the past few months, I have been sad, and my faith has been slipping. I know that it is because I am lacking God’s Word. I am a vendor, and I have to work 17 hours a day, from 4 AM to 9 PM. That leaves me no time to serve God. This is my sad reality. I would like to get out of this situation, but I don’t know how. Please pray for me, and give me some advice. Thank you very much. I would also like to take this opportunity to request some materials on Marriage and Family, because I really need it these days. May God bless you and give you wisdom so you can help me with my problems.

When I was a child, I remembered my brother tuned the radio program on Sunday night to listen to the Nguon Song Children’s Program. As I recorded the tape this weekend, I heard an incomplete Children’s Program at the end of a tape (side B). Now, I know who the lady speaking in the program was. I don’t know when you stopped broadcasting the Children’s Program. It was the only Nguon Song program I listened to when I was a kid. The song “A Sun Beam” is still in my mind these years. Thank you for this program.

From Mr. N.T.H., Nghe An

Thank God that the 3 letters you sent to me all arrived safely. May God bless you in your ministry as you proclaim the Gospel message throughout the earth. As for me, God is sustaining me in my faith, and my work is all right. However, my village is very poor and the church is facing a lot of difficulty. For 2 consecutive years now, there has been a lot of persecution. One time, during Bible Study, local authorities came in suddenly and made a report, put the 2 leaders in jail for 2 days. Each leader was fined 150,000 piasters. All of the other people were each fined 50,000 piasters. Whoever signed a paper promising to not attend any more Bible studies was released. They confiscated all of our books and Bible, as well as our radio. So we have been unable to listen to your sermons. I hope that you will pray for us. The church still meets regularly, sometimes secretly and sometimes openly. I really need the Gospel tract entitled, “I Believe What the Bible Says.” Could you please send me some? Thank you.

From Mr. D.H.P., Ho Chi Minh City

I was really touched to receive your letter. I apologize for not responding to you whenever I received a letter or materials from you over the past few years. These days, your signal is weak, and I am unable to listen to your broadcast. However, I still pray for you. If you have a Bible commentary, could I please have a copy? Thank you.

From Mr. N.T.K., Hai Phong

It has been a long time since I last wrote to you. In my previous letter from 1997, I requested an English New Testament, but did not receive one. However, since then, I have received one from a friend of mine. For some time, I was unable to listen to Nguon Song because I worked far from home. During this time, I loaned my radio to a friend. Now that I am home, I see that my friend really enjoys listening to Nguon Song, so I don’t want to take it back from him. I just pray that God will provide me with another radio, so that I can again listen to your program regularly. Please pray for me too.
