Responses from Vietnamese Listeners

July 2000

Note: "Nguon Song" or "Spring of Life" is the name of Vietnamese broadcast on the FEBC Radio.

1. Mr. B.N.N., Quang Nam

I have been a regular listener of your station for more than 3 years, but please forgive me for not writing to you before now. I have been working together with you by introducing the non-believers in our community to your broadcast. I am also a minister of the Word, taking part in the task of bringing the Gospel to the world. Please pray for me and help me with books and other resources to serve God. I am in need of Bibles and Gospel tracts. Please let me know if you can help. Thank you.

2. Miss D.X.U., Ho Chi Minh City

I was very moved when receiving the booklet you sent me. About 3 years ago, when I first came to know the Lord, I had the opportunity to listen to your broadcast. I did write you a letter requesting lessons on the life of Christ. Through you programs, the books that you sent me, and through the guidance of my brothers and sisters in the church, my faith has grown very much. I go to church every week to hear sermons and learn more about the Word of God. I pray and have quiet time with God every day. I have experienced God's power and His blessings in my life. I am a college graduate, and have been working for 2 years now. It's very hard to find work in Vietnam, but God has answered my prayers and I have a very decent job. At our young age, there are many worldly temptations that have sometimes caused me to stumble and neglect my Bible studies. I always pray for strength and faith enough to overcome these temptations. I thank God that you have remembered me and sent me the "Recipe for One Year of Happiness." I pray that God will help me to learn and live according to these principles everyday of my life. Please pray that I will always grow in Christ.

3. Mrs. V.T.A., Ho Chi Minh City

I received two packages that included the two books, "Streams in the Desert, Vol. 3" and "Doctrines of Basic Christianity." When I checked the material to make photocopies for my friends, I saw that "Streams in the Desert, Vol. 2" was missing. I hope that you can send me this second volume, and please pray that God will give me His power so that I will have the strength and health to serve Him during the rest of my days here on earth. Please send me several program guides, because the photocopies do not come out well. Thank you.

4. Mr. P.V.S., Pleiku

I came to know God over 10 years ago. Because of some difficult circumstances I had to work as a housemaid for a family living in the mountains. There, I desperately wanted to go to church, but there was none in the area. Christians there met in homes to worship God in small groups. I used to always have a copy of the New Testament with me, but I have given it away to someone who really wanted to read the Bible and follow God's teaching. Without my Bible, I try to study God's Word through your broadcasts, but it hasn't been consistent because the signal is not very clear, there's a lot of static. A year ago, I heard a sermon on the radio that I really liked. The theme of that sermon was that God wants His children to grow in their faith, just believing is not enough. I have been a Christian for more than 10 years, but have not grown in my faith! (I have not been baptized). I want to write to you to request a Bible and some sermon notes, but I'm afraid my letter won't make it to you. This time, I am back in the city, and I also have a friend who is writing to you, so I'm taking a chance and writing to you. Please send me anything that you think I can receive, so that I can study and obey God's Word, and that I can grow in my faith and help those around me come to the Lord.

These days I have been wanting to write to you to request a copy of the Vietnamese Living Bible, but because I've been busy and hesitant to write requesting anything, I've put it off until today. My three children are now studying the course "Life of Christ" so we are really in need of a Living Bible. My children and I rarely get to listen to Nguon Song broadcasting, but every time I get to listen, I am moved. It sounds like I'm contradicting myself because I say I like to listen, but rarely listen, but that is the truth because I have to go to work everyday to provide for my family. As a Christian mother, I would like to follow the examples of the women in the Old Testament, and dedicate my children to the Lord for use in His work. I wrote to you to request a Bible, but have written a lot about my family instead. Please forgive me, and please remember to send me that Living Bible. Thank you very much.

6. Miss C.T.A., Kien Giang

Dear brothers and sisters, I was thrilled to have received your letter with the "Recipe for One Year of Happiness." I will do my best to follow these principles to find happiness in life. Thank you very much and please send me other materials.

7. Mr. C.V.P., Kien Giang

I've been thinking of writing to you, but have been unable to for a long time now due to difficult circumstances. I hope you understand. I would like you to send me lessons to study so that I live according to God's teaching. Not long ago, you did send me some material that included a New Testament. Unfortunately, I did not receive it. When I heard the announcement on the air, I was very happy. But as of today, I have only received 2 materials, "Streams in the Desert" and "Lessons on Marriage Preparation." So I am writing this letter to re-request the following: one New Testament, Christmas cards and a 2000 calendar, "Lessons on Marriage and Family," "Basic Doctrines," and ten copies of "Recipe for One Year of Happiness," "True Love," "Understanding Your Teenagers," "Christianity and the Intellects," and "Lessons on Dating." Hopefully you will send me these materials.

8. Mr. B.D.C., Ho Chi Minh City

After a long day of hard work, I was moved and excited to find that you had sent me a letter. Reading the letter, I felt the love and warmth that you have reserved for my family. The "Recipe for One Year of Happiness" is wonderful. However, it's hard to apply in my family because we are going through a lot of trials. I have to go to work everyday to provide for my family, even on Sundays, so I am unable to go to church to worship the Lord. At home, we don't have a radio with which to listen to Nguon Song. Because of all this, my family continued to walk in darkness, until today. Your gift has shown us love and warmth in the Lord. Please pray for my family so that we live up to our names as children of God.

9. Miss C.T.H., Ben Tre

I was very happy and excited to receive your letter through our pastor's wife after our Monday night prayer meeting at church. I was so excited I wanted to open it right away, but it was too dark, so I had to wait until I got home. Thank God that when I opened it, I found some wonderful material, "A Recipe for One Year of Happiness." And there were also 2 Vietnamese postage stamps. I looked for and hoped to see a personal letter, but found none. I was thinking how happy I would have been if there had been a letter with comforting words, because I've been waiting many months to receive a reply from you. When I was a child, I really liked to listen to the sermons and children singing on Nguon Song radio. I really respected people who dedicated their entire lives to serve the Lord, and I wanted to be like you. Please send me a Bible with both Old and New Testaments and a new songbook so I can use them during church fellowship. Thank you.

10. Mr. G.T.H., Ho Chi Minh City

My family has received your gift, "A Recipe for One Year of Happiness." It was truly a great comfort to my whole family over the past 2 years. God has really visited us and fed us a very fine meal. I am going to make a lot of copies to send to the Christian families that are under my care. Now we are in need of books about faith and biblical teaching. We are also in need of a Bible Dictionary and the book, "Basic Doctrines." Please send these to me if possible.

11. Mr. N.H.A. & Mr. N.A.H., Binh Thuan

We've heard in one of your Listener's Mailbag programs last March that you had sent us a number of booklets but as of today we did not receive any. We hope that you'll find some other ways to send the requested materials to your listeners so they would have a better chance to receive them. You have also asked your listeners to give their opinions on a new frequency and new time schedule for the Vietnamese broadcasts. As for us, we think that the current time and frequency for the morning broadcast are just perfect and you should keep it. Except when the weather is bad, your programs come in loud and clear every morning. We still do not receive the printed materials that we have requested and we know that it's not your fault. For now we can only hope that you would find a better way to send us what we request. Thank you for your consideration.
