May 2001
Note: "Nguon Song" or "Spring of Life" is the name of Vietnamese broadcast on the FEBC Radio.
1. From Mr. D.P.T., Dong Nai
My family thanks God because He always provides us with spiritual food through Nguon Song. We can hear the morning program, from 5:45 to 6:45 AM especially well. The evening program is only clear from 8 to 9:30 PM. Thank God that our family has grown spiritually, our children faithfully follow Him, and I am able to preach God’s Word, all thanks to your radio ministry. We are most touched by your programs, “Shelter in Life” and “In Christ’s Footsteps.” Aside from the programs, there are also a lot of really good worship songs. My children long to have copies of those songs so that they can sing them for worship on Sundays. God’s Word has made my family more faithful in our walk daily. May God bless your radio ministry, so that God’s Word may be preached throughout the whole world. Please send us whatever material you have available, so that we can establish the foundation for Christian living.
2. From Miss N.T.L.T., Ha Noi
I don’t know how to start this letter, because no one in my family is a follower of Christ. However, I am a regular listener. I listen to the Bible reading programs. I also have a friend who is a Christian, so now I have a copy of the New Testament. I would like to have more books that explain about the Bible. I heard you announce that you would send those books free of charge. So, I would like for you to send them to me, so that I may become a good believer.
3. From Mr. N.V.X., Can Tho
This past March, my family and I received the materials and letter that you sent to us. I was really happy and touched by God’s teaching. I was especially comforted by the verse you used from the book of Colossians. In God’s love, I thank you very much for your kindness. Thank God that he has blessed my family in our business. Because of that, I was able to save some money so that I could spend some time in ministry. Thank you for sending me stamps so that I could reply to your letters. In the past days, the signal in the morning is sometimes clear, and at other times, there is interference, making it difficult to hear. However, recently, on April 30th, the morning signal was clear at first, and then there was a lot of static. The signal was ultimately lost, and we couldn’t hear it at all at the end of the program. In the evening, we could hear it at 7 PM, but there were still times when there was noise or static, making it difficult to hear. But at 8 PM, when it switched to the 25meter band, we could listen fine.
4. From Mr. T.L., Dong Nai
This is the first time I have written to you. If you get my letter, then I will write you once a month. And depending on need, it might even be more often than that. Please send me the programs that you have already broadcast, because I can’t hear them very clearly, and sometimes not at all. If possible, could you please give me a Bible in English, and if it’s not too costly for you. At present, listening to your station is my main source of learning and worship, because there is no church. We meet at home, just listening to the preaching of some pastor.
5. From Mr. L.H.H., Quang Ngai
I was born in a typical Vietnamese family... we worshipped our ancestors. We had no religion. My mother believed in many gods. When I was still young, I went with Mother to the temples to worship these gods. In my innocence, I believed as well, and worshipped them like so many other people did. My family was getting poorer by the day. In 1983, my mother became terminally ill. She passed away two years later. After her death, the gods that my mother worshipped had no effect on me, but I continued to pray to them and worship them every night. In 1991, I got married, and continued to worship idols.
In 1994, my village got electricity, and was able to buy a radio cassette player to listen to music and foreign radio, such as BBC and VOA. These stations are broadcast on familiar frequencies that I listened to daily. One day, in 1995, my radio broke. The needle that indicates what station I’m on got stuck. When I took it to get repaired, they told me that it was broken, but they didn’t have the part to replace it. So they took the needle off, and asked me to wait until they found the part. I agreed to take the radio home without the needle. Then, one day, at the regular time, I turned my radio on to listen to the news. As I tuned the radio, I couldn’t tell what frequency or station I was listening to, but I heard the theme song of an unfamiliar station. So, I left it there to listened for a while. After the theme song, I heard an announcer’s voice clearly say: “This is Nguon Song radio, the voice of love, truth and hope, broadcast daily from Manila, Philippines.”
“The words love, truth and hope strongly attracted me. Out of curiosity, I continued to listen to your broadcasts forgetting about the other stations I used to listen to. Unexpectedly, Nguon Song led me from one surprise to another. And I was very moved to be introduced to Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. I learned that Jesus came to the world in the form of man to express His love, and died to save mankind from sin. He even died on a cross. This is the first time I’d heard about God. I told myself: “There is no more doubt. This is the real truth, and my goal in life.” All of my questions have been answered. All of a sudden, there was a wonderful change in my life. Now I see that the idols that my mother and I worshipped are worthless and powerless, with no spiritual value.
Gradually, I put aside my sinful nature. I no longer follow my own way. It seems like the worries of this life have all disappeared. I trust in God’s promises in the Bible: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Gradually, through God’s Word preached by Nguon Song, I have been able to break my bad habits and leave behind worldly pleasures. However, I need God to give me strength to overcome temptations, because my faith is still young. But there is one thing for certain: God has changed me through His power, and I always have peace in my heart and trust in the Lord. Since the day I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior, I was able to put away all of my anger, quarrel, and pride. From then on, the burdens in my life were lifted. All of my problems in relation with people are solved because I am now more kind and patient with them. Although I am still facing trials and difficulties in life from time to time, my heart is filled with joy for I know that whatever happens to me is from the will of God, and His will is always best for me.
Through God’s guidance and the help of some Christian friends, I have now joined a church in the area where I can worship every Sunday. My life is now stable but what I am thankful the most is that I now have the Lord, Who is my trust and the Shelter for my soul in this world. I thank God with all my heart, I also thank Nguon Song Radio, all of the pastors and friends in church who have guided me and helped bring me to God as well as to the teaching of His Word and have also given me the opportunity to share my testimony. Please remember me in your prayers.
6. From Mr. D.S., Dong Nai
I thank God that I have received the letter you sent me, along with the calendar and the program guide. I thank God that I have His Word every day, and am able to grow closer to Him. Please send me the lessons from the following programs: “Women’s Program” that talks about the relationship between mothers and sons, “Marriage and Family,” and “In Christ’s Footsteps.” Your letter arrived very quickly this time. If you have song sheets or cassette tapes, please send them to me. Regarding the time and frequency of your broadcast, thank God that I am able to hear it very clearly. Please also send me the “Marriage Preparation” lessons that talk about the expectations of husbands and wives. Thank you.
7. From Mrs. N.T.N.H., Tien Giang
I would like share good news with you: I have received three of your letters all at once. I was very happy. God has already blessed us. May this joy be long lasting. When you switched to the new frequency on March 25th, I was able to hear it much better. I was so happy to receive the materials on marriage, but I think the lesson entitled: “Why God is Silent?” was lost in the mail. Reading your letter I am very encouraged. I am thankful for your kindness. Can you please send me the following two lessons: What Wives Expect from their Husbands and What Husbands Expect from their Wives. Thank you very much.
7. From Mr. L.T.L., Can Tho
I recently received two letters that you sent to me. Thank you very much. I regularly listen to you every night, from 7 to 8 PM. At that hour, the 41meter band is very clear. You recently had some very good sermons from the Bible, which easily penetrated listeners’ hearts. For example, in a Story of the Day, you used Proverbs 1 to encourage and admonish. It was really good. The songs “In Moments Like These” and “In His Time” are very touching. I really like them. May God give you wisdom, so that you can have new and practical programs to bring God’s Word to listeners, so that many might be saved. If possible, please send me the lesson “Unity in the Body of Christ” from “Words of Hope” program.
8. N.D.L., Quang Ngai
Although we have never met, but feel very close to you all because I listen to your programs every day. I am very glad that I am able to listen to your broadcast, which is much needed food for my soul. I pray for your ministry every day and also tell many friends about it. I hope that you will continue to send more materials to me, such as lessons from the “Words of Hope” programs, the booklet “Peace with God”, the series “Satan in Today’s World” and “Stories of the Day”, etc. Thank you in advance for your help.
9. Mrs. N.T.Y., Nha Trang
I was very happy and really touched by your kindness when at the beginning of every year you would send me some gift. We thank God for allowing us (our whole family) to listen to your broadcast every day. Through your teaching of God’s Word, we have been nurtured, encouraged and built up in the faith. Our knowledge of the Scripture is also increased. I think your programs are getting better and better and they are very helpful and profitable to those who listen. I believe that there are now more people who know and listen to Nguon Song programs than ever before. One of the things we do to help the new believers in our church to grow in their faith is introducing them to your broadcast. And after listening to it for a while, they all show great interest in it. We thank you all for your hard labor in producing programs that are so good for our souls. We always remember you in our prayers. May God continue to use FEBC’s Nguon Song Radio to bring the Good News to our people so that many will come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior.
10. L.T.T., Ho Chi Minh City
About three years ago, I requested an English New Testament and you sent me one. Thank you very much. Then, at the New Year’s of 2000, you sent to me a beautiful calendar, but I had never sent you a thank you note. Please forgive me for that. Today, I would like to request a copy of the New Translation of the Vietnamese Bible. I hope that my request won’t be too costly for you. I love to listen to your programs. However, since I entered college and had to live with my aunt’s family, I have not been able to listen. Regarding the quality of your signals, I think you need to have a very good radio in order to listen to Nguon Song’s programs, if your radio is not good, it is very difficult to hear. If the signals were better, I think more people would listen and more would become Christians. When it’s difficult to hear, the non-Christians would not have the patience to listen until the end.
