Listener Responses from China

August, 1996

Topic: Stories of Migrant Workers

I visited a church by God's miraculous guidance

I was born in a poor and remote village. During my childhood, I liked to listen to overseas broadcast because it was the only way to know the world outside. Being influenced by atheism education, I came across but despised your broadcast.

In 1992 when I was twenty years old, just like many other young villagers, I went to work in city. Just a month after arriving there, by God's miraculous guidance, I visited a church and then attended their service. Through fellowship with brothers and sisters, I came to understand God's truth and Salvation. I finally converted and was baptized in 1993.

Being a Christian, I thank God that worry, anger, feeling of vanity and hopelessness have left me. I feel like a new person because God has given me a new life. My heart is filled with peace and joy. I know and praise the Lord that my future is in His hand.

I find a house church near my factory

I am now working in a city, far away from my home place. Thank God that I find and join a house church near my factory. The problem is that we have only six sisters altogether and our education level is low. During worship service, we sing hymns, give thanks, pray and read the Bible. Yes, we only read word by word without exposition. We don't know how to study the Bible and dare not interpreting God's word on our own. We like to listen to your broadcast but can hardly listen every day. Please help and support our church.

He lives alone and always feels homesick

I am writing to thank you for leading many Chinese in the mainland to Christ. My eldest son is one of those who find and receive Christ through your broadcast. At the age of 17 in 1986, he was assigned to work in construction site. When one task is completed, he had to move to another site. He then becomes a mobile worker and couldn't live with us. The working life is tough. He lives alone and always feels homesick, at night in particular. He bought a small radio set later and listened to radio broadcast every night. Radio becomes his good companion.

In 1993 he tuned in to your station by chance. The love of God through your gentle and kind message touched him. Thank God for calling my son to become His follower. Now he has a meaningful life and always preach the Gospel to his colleagues.

Few people hear of Jesus in my home place

I am working in Fujian while my home is in Jiangxi. By God's grace, I got to know Him and His salvation in this foreign place last year. The church here gives me great support and caring. We all listen to your broadcast after work. I am sorry that most people in the mainland China have not accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. There are some TV programs about Christianity but biased. Some people know the name of Jesus Christ but reject Him. They even make fun of Christians saying that we are inferior and incompetent so that we need a god. In my home place, few people have ever heard of Jesus Christ. If I had not left there, I would not have known Him. I thank God for choosing me.

It's my hope to work and serve here

In order to earn a living, I left my home early this year. I am now working as a coal miner in a remote and mountainous place. It's my hope not only to work here but also serve the Lord and minister the church. I have visited some churches nearby but they don't welcome foreigners. There are disputes among them and they point at each other as heresy. I have shared my understanding about the Bible with some leaders. They agree with me but prefer isolated. They claim that they have to stay away from false teachers and prophets by all means. I am very disappointed and distressed.

My father sneered at me

I am twenty years old. Many people have bright teens but what I have is grief and failure. My parents always quarrel since my childhood. They are hostile to the other. When I graduated from junior high school, the financial burden of the family laid on my shoulder. I wanted to earn a lot and tried many areas but in vain. At last I decided to leave my home for Guangzhou. I worked very hard but earned little only. My father sneered at me and broken my heart. In midst of hopelessness, I tuned in to your station and got the hope and comfort. Then I joined a loving church. Today I finally know that life can be warm and bright.
