FEBC began broadcasting in China, February 7, 1947, but was forced to cease operations there when political turmoil made it impossible. Short wave broadcasts to China were begun from the Philippines in July of 1949, three months before the People's Republic of China was declared. Through 1977, little mail response was received. At the end of the Cultural Revolution, the door of China "opened" a crack, and from then until now (2008) FEBC has received hundreds of thousands of letters, faxes, emails and text messages in response to radio and web broadcasting.
