Listener Responses - Cambodia

Back     Home

The following stories are those of listeners to KRUSA-FM, Phnom Penh and to the Voice of Love (SW from Manila). Radio listeners in this country rarely write letters. Thus most accounts are learned through chance encounters, radio rallies, or when listeners visit the radio station.

September, 2005

Listener Rally, Lvearso, Kandal, September 2. (Attendees' comments).

1.

My Name is Chear Sokhum. I am a pastor at Lvearso. I really appreciate the programs of Family FM. As far as my ability is concerned I am not qualified to become a pastor because I have never attended a Bible school unlike probably many of you here. As you know my church is very far from Phnom Penh, so I seldom joined any conference or workshop at all. However, I really praise the Lord for having Family FM, which broadcast God's Word. The programs teach me and help me grow in faith and enable me to share with my members at church every Sunday. The station also helps in teaching the children in our church's orphanage because I do not have much time to spend with them. Family FM not only shares the Good News but also teaches about life skills, which makes me realize about my own skill and that I should be sharing it with others. So now I started to teach my members how to take care of animals because I have been trained to do this. Finally, I want to thank God for giving us the Family FM station, which helps many people to know God more and more. About 10-20% of my members have been listening to Family FM before they came to join our church.

2.

My name is Rors Sitoen. I praise the Lord for Family FM. I used to try to find good programs on other stations but could not find one as good as those on Family FM. Through this station, I have learned a lot about God's Word…Around my village there are many temptations so I started to pray to God for a church. I prayed for a long time but didn't get the result and I got upset. But listening to Family FM has encouraged me because through the radio God taught me how to wait for the right time. Later, I started to encourage my members what I have learned from Family FM. I could say that next to the Bible, Family FM is the second important thing that teaches me to know more about God.

3.

My name is Sok Ly. I live in Boung Kroum village in Lvear Aem District. I used to hear the Good News since 1960 through the short wave broadcast from the Philippines. At that time I did not understand anything about God. But I learned and remembered the promise that God can save me from everything so I kept on listening even though I did not understand much. Finally, I decided to accept Jesus on Christmas day in 2004. So my belief is still so young. My family is hard-up and busy. We always come home late and sometimes we don't have the light or lamp if we want to read the Bible. So it is very hard for us to know more about God. But I praise the Lord that when I lie down to sleep I would hear the sound of preaching from my neighbor's house through Family FM, which touches my heart and encourages my family. I believe that there will be many more people who will come to know God through this station. Thank you, Family FM team, for coming and visiting us. Thank you for providing the radios for us to listen in order to know and walk in God's way.

4.

I am a pastor in one church in Lvear Aem District. My name is Noue Hay. I feel good whenever I listen to the programs of Family FM. I thank God for this Christian station, which airs programs that lead us to know God more. The teachings bless my family and help us to live in peace. I can say that the entire broadcast from Family FM is good. Not only does it help young Christians to grow more in faith, it also helps the people in their social and educational development.

5.

My name is Hay Soy. I live in Cheer Dom village, Lvear Aem District. Today I am very happy to stand here and tell all of you what God has taught me through listening to Family FM radio. I am not a pastor; I am just a simple member in the church. My family usually listens to the Family FM station. Before, my family was very poor and quite discouraged with our life. But since we started listening to the programs on Family FM we have found joy and peace in our hearts. We always get refreshed after listening. Family FM has changed my family with the love and joy it gives. Even now that the situation in my family has not changed much, we have inner peace, which makes us feel sufficient. Thank you Family FM. May God bless you.

6.

I am a member of this church. I would like to thank Family FM radio. I praise the Lord for giving us this station. May God bless Family FM forevermore. Thank you.

I am much honored to come to this occasion. I am the Village Chief in Lvearso District, Kandal Province. According to what I heard today, I can say that all your programs are good. Your station really encourages and educates the people. I am so happy that the people in my village listen to your station. I heard a lot from villagers, even the non-believers; they respect your programs. I wish to thank Family FM for making good programs for the Khmer people. It is not only the old people who listen but people of all ages can listen and enjoy as well. I am so happy today that I was invited to come. Thank you.
